Little Houses

Grownups like tiny houses just as much as kids. This example from North Carolina is awesome.

It is solar and insulated and with a flat screen TV, a toilet, and a queen size bed, it has been our home practically every weekend for the past 3 1/2 years while we build a larger house by ourselves.  It stays warm with body heat (two adults and a 70lb dog) in winters that can see 40+ inches of snow.  It has been absolutely great! It forces you to get out and stay active.

I have dreams of remodeling the windowless outbuilding on our property that was originally built as a storage space. It has electricity, but I’d love to take it off the grid, add windows, insulation, and better A/C for the steamy Austin summers. I’d also like to partition the space into a shop on one side and an office on the other, with some kind of dust barrier in between. An inner sanctum of sorts with all the crap no one else wants in the house.

Maybe not quite the same as these little structures, since I don’t plan to sleep there, but you get the idea.
